2017 SOLAR ECLIPSE

This is my picture of the eclipse. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I decided to head to eastern Oregon for the 2017 eclipse. The area is in the path of totality, it's away from a lot of population centers (maybe a bit less traffic) and it would be likely to have good weather. I ended up camping at the Right Lane Ranch, just outside of Spray, Oregon. It was a great location and the owners did a fantastic job hosting hundreds of campers.

The beautiful sunset was because of the clouds - kind of worrisome for the next morning. Luckily, the front moved through and the next day was clear and beautiful.

Some photography/astronomy friends drove down from Washington and joined us early Monday morning, bringing even more cameras and solar scopes.

I was shooting with a Fuji X-Pro 2 and a 100-400mm lens. I used a solar filter up until totality (at which point it was torn off to shoot the corona and Bailey's Beads photos).

It was an magical experience and well worth the trouble of traffic (much worse going home), sleeping in a field, and potential rattlesnakes.
Finally, I couldn't resist this photo. The lens flare makes it look like a movie poster!
